Islay 2024
24th July 2024
A return trip to Islay with Jimmy Haddow in April 2024. Our previous trip in 2020 was not 100% successful because many businesses were still restricted by Covid.
This time we stayed at the excellent Allandale B&B at Bowmore and enjoyed fantastic weather, apart from Monday when we were going home anyway.
We travelled on the MV Hebridean Isles, which was approaching "Life Begins At Forty" as the MV Finlaggan was getting its annual refit.
We fitted in distillery visits at Caol Ila, Bowmore and Kilchoman, and brought back many samples...
On Sunday we had a quick hop over to Jura which was mostly closed... although we saw a Great Northern Diver.
We had a lovely venison casserole at the Bowmore Hotel, but the culinary highlight of the weekend was dinner at the Lochindaal Seafood Kitchen at Port Charlotte.
On Monday morning it was raining so we popped into Laphroaig and picked up some freebies as we are Friends of Laphroaig. We also looked in to Lagavulin.
