Islay, September 2020
09th October 2020
A few images from a long weekend in Bowmore with my old mate Jimmy Haddow.
This was my third trip to Islay and was long overdue as the previous visit was 2009, and before that, 1994.
Sadly, this was postponed from April due to Covid so the long anticipated bird/whisky fest didn't materialise as most things were closed.
We did get a tasting at Ardbeg and some access at Bunnahabhainn, but never got near a stillhouse...
The hides at Loch Gruinart were closed too. Had a nice meal at Lochindaal Seafood Kitchen on the last night which helped a bit.
Amongst the images below are: The Paps of Jura; The round Kilarrow Kirk at Bowmore, supposedly designed so that there were no corners for Auld Nick to hide in; The kirk at Portnahaven, which has two doors - one for the villagers and one for the parishioners of the adjoining village of Port Wemyss.
