The Roe Deer of Polton

23rd February 2015
I thought I should do a little piece on these magnificent creatures as I often see them when I'm out walking, within half a mile of my house.
I've also included a few shots which were taken at Musselburgh.
In the shots taken up to May the bucks are in velvet, which is shed soon after along with the shabby winter coat. You can see in the July and September shots how they are in good condition for the rut and much redder. In late autumn they are much darker as their winter coat grows in.
